The
paintings of David Lanier reflect a deep appreciation for the
natural world. A lifetime of quiet observation in the outdoors
reveals itself through the ever-changing light and moods
portrayed in his work. Color, habitat and wildlife merge
harmoniously to create powerful images of a wondrous world - a
world where the common and seemingly insignificant suddenly
reveal their hidden beauty.
Born in
1962 in Albany, Georgia, David spent much of his youth in the
outdoors of the southeastern United States. Introduced to the
outdoors at an early age, he and his parents made countless trips
together, fishing, canoeing and observing wildlife. Today, David
credits those early excursions as the most important influence on
his decision to paint nature.
David's
artistic talent, however, did not surface until high school. After
graduation, he enrolled in the famed Ringling School of Art in
Sarasota, Florida, where he graduated with honors. After a brief
stint at illustrating books and magazines, David decided to forsake
his budding commercial art career to begin painting wildlife
scenes.
A
dramatic use of color and fine detail enable Lanier to capture the
spirit of the outdoors as few other artists are able. That talent,
combined with his attention to accuracy of subject matter and
habitat, have earned David national recognition and made his work
sought by collectors throughout the United States. In addition,
wildlife conservation groups such as Ducks Unlimited and Quail
Unlimited use David’s work in national fund-raising efforts.
David
lives and works at his home studio in Albany, with his wife, Cathy,
and their two children.
